A Testimonial to our "Living The Gift" course:
I have just read part 6 of your newsletter which struck a particular cord with me about ‘getting the whole picture’. I believe I do have some dyslexic traits and have only begun too recognise this in the past 3 years whilst reading aloud to my 3 year old son, (I am 34),which has come as almost a great relief to me that there might be a reason for many years of frustration, confusion and just feeling different.
Now with the insight provided in your newsletters and other information as to why this might me happanening I can work with the skills that I have as opposed to trying to be and think like everyone else and fit in.
Back in 1996 I applied for a job with BT as a service engineer, during the interview I was asked what my strengths and weaknesses were. I stated that my strengths were that I was confident, I can get on well with and talk to people quite easily and I am a hard worker, I told my two interviewers that my weaknesses were that sometimes it takes me longer to be explained something until it is fully understood, he then asked what the advantages were to this, I thought this was strange question and threw me slightly, but I answered with the first thing that came into my head, “ the advantages to this are that once I get it I really get and you can be assured that I will carry out the said task and I will be 100% confident that it will be done properly”.
I was offered the job 4 weeks later but didn’t take it as I went travelling to Australia. This incident has always stayed in my head and because I spoke without thinking with my reply to that question have wondered why and if my ‘weakness’ does indeed have any advantages to it and how I can apply it to everyday life I am now slowly finding out thanks to information like that in your newsletter !!
Many thanks
Darren Wilkinson
